Burn Ban in Effect for Lee County, Charlotte County, Collier County

Burning Restrictions for all of Lee, Charlotte, Collier Counties

The Burn Ban Affects all of Lee County, Including Cape Coral, Bonita Springs, Fort Myers, and Sanibel Island.

Recreational Burning and Bonfires

Recreational burns – with the exception of a cooking fire in some locations – are not allowed during a burn ban. This means that fires in outdoor fireplaces and fire pits are not allowed under any circumstances until Lee County (and/or your specific location) have lifted the burn ban.

Bonfires are also not allowed. Bonfires require a special permit and appropriate supervision approved by the Fire Marshal (at least within Cape Coral). Permits will not be issued for bonfires until after the burn ban has been lifted.

Given the extreme heat lately, there really shouldn’t be an urge to participate in any sort of recreational burns anyway. You’ll be able to enjoy those fire pits and outdoor fireplaces in the fall.

Clearing Land and Managing Burns

Similar to controlled burns for land clearing, permits are required within Cape Coral. Permits will not be approved while the burn ban is in effect.

Cooking Fires

Depending on your location, you may be allowed to still use your outdoor grill, provided that the flame is completely contained. You’ll want to look up the burn ban stipulations within your city or county for more details.
